a convergence of tea time thoughts for ladies

books I been reading

neat tea scooper

Such a rainy day today.  Made Frontier’s Irish Breakfast tea and used my neat tea scooper.  It has a clamp that holds the tea bag for steeping.  Works great.  A real nice tea snob gave it to me!

Coffee hits the spot so often, but the tannin in tea is good for your tummy.   If you are nauseous, drink  black tea for the tannin that helps your tummy.   If you watch PBS movies for any length of time, you will be wanting a pot of tea as well.  In any time period of the PBS videos, they are drinking tea out of good china.

Call the Midwife

I saw seasons 1, and 2, then I was determined to read the 3 book series that inspired this PBS success.  It took most of the summer to wait for season 3 from the library, but it finally came!  I didn’t want to see anything that came after season 3, since I heard that the main character leaves the show, and all of the the authors stories were used up.

I read the books by Jennifer Worth, the nurse from the mid 40s- 1960’s who was a midwife in England.  My review isn’t  super, but if you got o Amazon; the reviews are many- three thousand, I think!.

I only know about the 3 books in the series- Call the Midwife, Shadows of the Workhouse, and the last one- Farewell to the East End.   I don’t know about these other two books shown above that  she wrote.  There’s so much history in what Jennifer Worth wrote, and she gives a lot of insight into the workhouses of England.

The Workhouses, also called poor houses, started out not so bad, but the turning point that was awful in the workhouse  history, was when they built huge stone regional workhouses, and consolidated the local ones into these massive huge regional ones that took the soul and spirit out of a person, and made it into a prison system for the poor.

I hope you get a chance to read Jennifer Worth’s books.  Some things are very true to the book,  that are in the PBS series, but some I’m not sure about.   I love nursing history, which is why I enjoyed reading Jennifer Worth’s true stories.  The medical field in general is so fascinating.  It has the ability to help people.  Currently I am learning how to take a person’s blood pressure.

The Miting

Read any good books lately?   I did.  I’ve been trying out Amish fiction, and this is the 5th book I read.  First time reading something of this author.  They are all different, because  there are different sects of Amish.  This one is an old order strict group, and  poor Leah gets punished for reading a bible and trusting Jesus Christ for her way to heaven.   The old order Amish is a cult.  Satan is the author of confusion.   I’m sure this book  was all true,  as it was most likely someones true story.

I read somewhere online that the Amish fiction books put christian beliefs into the Amish circles, and it isn’t always accurate. This book seems accurate and christian beliefs are not falsely written into the Amish way.  Their way to heaven is gained by following the bishop and all he says.

Here’s Satan’s confusion: when they died at the stake from being a christian some 300 years ago, those martyrs would have never dreamed that the people coming from them 300 years later would not accept Gods way to heaven (through Jesus Christ).   Satan had his way by bringing in confusion , by means of not letting the people read an english bible .

The old order Amish  get the word of God from what the bishop says and no interpretation of their own.  This sounds like way back when the bible in the Catholic church was chained to the altar (or table) and no one had a bible in their home.  This book is what real old order Amish believe.  Glad I read it!

Amanda daughter of the Mennonites

515n77shiQL._AA160_Amanda daughter of the Mennonites

I enjoyed this book- Amanda daughter of the Mennonites.   It’s just a simple story of a red head girl who lives in the country.   These Mennonite/Amish books are all “out in the country” that’s why aI like them, and they are about strong family ties.  As for their religion, I don’t read the books for that.  They live in the old testament… get bible things mixed up… but I like the family togetherness in these books.

It’s a free kindle book- very inviting.

Ephesians chapter 6

This  is the last chapter of the book of Ephesians.  Even though I’m taking a chapter a day this week, usually I stay in one chapter for three days or longer.  I can’t absorb all of one chapter in one day, because there is so much to pounder on in any given chapter.  It was about 2 years ago that I started to read the bible portions over and over, and more slowly, which helped me a lot.  By reading it slowly, it stays in my thoughts, and I can concentrate on what I’ve read.

The armor of God,

Pray for Paul

Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. Ephesians 6:2-3.

Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  Ephesians 6:11

And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,  For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.  Ephesians 6:19, 20

Tychicus, a beloved brother, is sent by Paul to tell them all about how it goes with Paul.  Tychicus comforts the Christian’s hearts (verse 22).   Thank God for the christian friends that were a comfort to us over the years.   That is the kind of friend I want to be.

We can’t pray for Paul anymore, but we can pray for people to want Jesus for their Saviour, and to understand their need for a Saviour.  Most people don’t think they are sinners, and they don’t think they need Jesus Christ to clear them of  sin.  I think a lot of people are shocked and hurt when they die.  We can’t bring them from the dead to tell us about it, but if a person isn’t trusting in Jesus to get them to heaven, then they are  most likely, shocked and hurt when they leave this world.

The armor of God in this chapter (6:10-18) has always been very special to me.  I had it all memorized at one time, but  I don’t think I can get it word perfectly as I used to.   The  armor of God  shows us a lot we need to know, like in verse 16.  Satan hates christians and he wants to destroy a christian in any way he can.  Satan wants to ruin  a christian’s   life.  That is what I see in this verse.   “Above all taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked” Ephesians 6:16.   The fiery darts of the wicked are meant to destroy a christen’s belief in God too.

“Above all taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked” Ephesians 6:16.

I hope you get a lot of out the book of Ephesians  as you read through it.  Thank God for it!  We don’t have to go on to eternity with stupidity.  God left us his Word for understanding things.

Ephesians chapter 5

Today, it’s about just 2 separate portions from this chapter that I learned from:

Let no man deceive you with vain words…. Ephesians 5:6a

What is the will of the Lord?  Ephesians 5:17-21

Here’s what we get deceived about with vain words: all the things in Ephesians 5:5.   A person can get led to think that the wrath of God doesn’t come upon  whoremongers, unclean persons, covetous man, and idolaters, but God’s wrath can come upon the children of disobedience.   It’s all right there, plain and simple.  We can please God, or choose not to.

For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.  Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience (June 28, 2011). Search by Verse TM Bible King James Version: [Kindle Fire version].).

We don’t have to be a part of it, like  the next verses in 5:7 says: “Be not ye therefore partakers with them”.   But then, there is marriage.   Your friends  as couples, are the husbands choice usually.  Who are his male friends?  That is why marriage has the potential to be very trying.  It’s not just you anymore who is inviting people to your home, and befriending, now it’s your husband’s choices too.  He’s got to have edifying friends.

We can understand what the will of the LORD is.

Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the LORD is.  And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;  Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord:  Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our LORD Jesus Christ;  Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God (Search by Verse TM Bible King James Version: [Kindle Fire version].)

We don’t need to drink liquor, but instead be filled with the Holy Spirit.    We can fill our mind with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, to the Lord.   Here comes the thankfulness part in verse 20; giving thanks always!

This works.  Singing to the Lord and being thankful to Him makes a person’s heart lighter and  pleases God.  It does wonders for me.  I’m glad my house isn’t so close to the neighbor’s that they hear me sing.  I might bother them if our houses were closer!

These are all good things from Ephesians 5.  This has been a good week reading this book every day.  When I die I can take my last breath knowing that I read God’s Word.  Many people are not prepared to die.  How embarrassing to go to heaven and not have read God’s word here in this life.

Being in God’s Word is the right thing to do.  Too many  weird beliefs can crowd out what is the Truth.  Get into God’s word on a regular basis.   Get a kindle, the bright light is so great for old eyes.  Don’t be embarrassed when you get to heaven and regret that you didn’t read God’s Word.  He speaks to us through his Word (King James Bible).

Ephesians chapter 4

The do’s and don’ts of Ephesians are in this chapter.

Things to do: walk worthy….forbear one another in love, endeavor to keep the unit of the spirit, put off former conversation, be renewed in the spirit of your mind…put on the new man…grieve not the holy spirit, be kind one to another…

The dont’s:  darkened understanding, blindness of heart, lasciviousness, deceitful lusts, let not the sun go down upon your wrath, steal no more, corrupt communication, bitterness, wrath anger, clamor…

Ephesians 4: 18 shows what  a person is if they are not in  Christ.  Their understanding is darkened because of their ignorance.   Their heart/mind is blinded.  They have no chance of spiritual understanding without  wanting Jesus as their Saviour.

...walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,  Having the understanding darkened, being alienated front the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart.  Ephesians 4:17b-18

We can be renewed in the spirit of our mind as verse 23 shows, “and put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness”… as verse 24 says.   I’m glad God gives us a choice.

Ephesians chapter 3

Ephesians 3 has many sections in it that are dear to me and encourage my heart. I have been choosing just a few parts from each chapter to write about.  Today what is on my mind are these two portions:  strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man…, and the love of Christ passes all knowledge.

Another prayer of Paul’s for us Christians

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, …That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man:…(Ephesians 3:14, 3:16  (june 28th,2011).  Search by Verse TM Bible King James Version: [Kindle Fire Version].  Retrieved fromAmazon.com).

Paul  is our example on how to please God, so we can pray this too.  Ephesians 3:19 is one of the most “stand out” parts of this chapter for me personally.  It shows me that the love of Christ, passes all knowledge, and that we can be filled with the fulness of God.  Does this sound nutty to some people?  It would if a person isn’t in Christ, and doesn’t want God in his life.  For the christian who wants God, it isn’t nutty, it is encouraging and brings a person closer to their Saviour.

May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.  Ephesians 3:18-19

Ephesians chapter 2

Phrases that come to mine when I think about this chapter are the following:  quickened us together with Christ, magnificent  kindness, by grace are ye saved, his workmanship, made nigh by the blood of Christ, he is our peace, a habitation of God through the Spirit.

This is a big chapter, with a lot of information in it.  God speaks to us through his Word.   My favorite verse from chapter 2 is Ephesians 2:7:

That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

God will show us his kindness to us through Jesus in the ages to come!  Jesus is kind, and will be kind to us all through eternity.  The ages to come is eternity.  Who can comprehend eternity?   I’m looking forward to heaven when I read this verse.

Here is another wonderful truth “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works,” (June 28, 2011). Search by Verse TM Bible King James Version: [Kindle Fire version]. Retrieved from Amazon.com).  As life goes on, we all have opportunities to do good works to please God.

I love reading Ephesians on my kindle.  When I can’t sleep at night, I just turn it on, and the page is so bright that I don’t need a flashlight like I previously needed for nighttime reading.  This kindle is great.  I think I only paid four dollars for this bible version.  The highlighter is especially neat, but why don’t they give the reader color choices?  Oh well, yellow is nice.

Ephesians chapter 1

A  a week of  reading  the book of Ephesians – starting today.  There are only 6 chapters in the book. Here is chapter 1.

Are you one of the faithful in Christ Jesus? Well, if you are, this book is written to you.

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus.  Ephesians 1:1

The verse I wrote yesterday, Ephesians 1: 21, should have the previous verses for some explanation.  Paul’s praying for these  Christians as he states in Eph. 1:16-17:

“Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:”…

He’s praying for the believers, and prays for these things for  their lives, and now he’s describing Jesus in verse 21.

“Far  above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:”

“But also in that which is to come” is the part that caught my attention. In heaven Jesus will still be far above all principality, and power, because that  which is  to come is in heaven.

The older I get “that which is to come”  fills my thoughts.  Heaven is real, so we might as well get ready for it, even if we live a long life here on earth.   I wonder what will be on your mind when you read Ephesians chapter 1?  Read it slowly.  Read a portion over and over, so you can crowd out other thoughts and just think about what you are reading.
